Item Summary:

Artemis has committed his entire fortune to a project he believes will save the planet and its inhabitants, both human and fairy. Can it be true? Has goodness taken hold of the world's greatest teenage criminal mastermind? Captain Holly Short is unconvinced, and discovers that Artemis is suffering from Atlantis Complex, a psychosis common among guilt-ridden fairies - not humans - and most likely triggered by Artemis's dabbling with fairy magic. Symptoms include obsessive-compulsive behavior, paranoia, multiple personality disorder and, in extreme cases, embarrassing professions of love to a certain feisty LEPrecon fairy. Unfortunately, Atlantis Complex has struck at the worst possible time. A deadly foe from Holly's past is intent on destroying the actual city of Atlantis. Can Artemis escape the confines of his mind - and the grips of a giant squid - in time to save the underwater metropolis and its fairy inhabitants? New York Times best-selling author Eoin Colfer delivers a knockout, fast-paced, and hilarious adventure in Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex, the seventh book in the blockbuster series.

Reviews:

The Artems franchise is running out of steam
Eoin Colfer wrote some entertaining books about Benny and Omar before the Artemis Fowl series. They were original and fun to read. The first Artemis book was not only entertaining; it was laugh out loud funny, original and a wonderful creation. Unfortunately, the series has pretty much gone downhill from there (although #3, "The Opal Deception" was pretty good). This one has forced laughs, a silly story line and thorougly lacks charm. Colfer's last two efforts, this book and his REALLY awful imitation of Douglas Adams, convince me I won't be reading anything by him any time soon. Too bad, but this is what happens when you run out of original ideas and write on autopilot.

as always
I havent finished to read the book but the printing, the paper, the whole presentation rimended me of the old days and the smell of a new book with pages to be split was wonderful

I miss Artemis....
I was so disappointed in this book as it stands in the series, as Artemis is missing (at least the Artemis that we have come to know and love). Would have been a better read if you aren't a fan of the series. So a good book on its own, but a not a great book 7 in a series.

book review
If you have a teenager that likes fun books they will love this one. It is full of fantasy and has plenty of drama.

It's OK, but the style and flair just aren't there...
I suppose an author needs to set up plot points for a climax. J.K. Rowling dropped little Easter eggs all throughout her series (though I'm not comparing the two authors). But with this volume Colfer--who is one of the top three authors I recommend to my 6th graders--seems to have just poured a few Easter eggs out of the basket and promised a meatier book at a later date. SPOILER: I was troubled to see that he killed off an reasonably important character in Vinyaya (just as it seemed gratuitous when Rowling killed off Hedwig, Fred Weasley, and a bunch of others. Wait, there I go again with the comparisons). Not every loose end needs to be tied up after all.
I liked it well enough to recommend it to my classes and I know I will re-read, but it was not quite what I expected. I can see why other reviewers have said that he seems to have phoned this one in.
Will we see new adventures in a similar vein with Arty's twin brothers? Are we going to see more Half Moon stories or other sequels?
And while I'm pondering the world of Colfer, who hired the team that created the graphic novel version of Artemis and others? Butler a knuckle dragger?
