Fun and Challenging But Not Enough Variety
This is a fun game but it the appeal doesn't last very long. The object is to make all the blocks in row either all black or all white. This is done by drawing a continuous line through various blocks side to side and up and down so that the blocks reverse their color. If you go through a black box, it turns white and visa versa. The better you are at planning your route, the more rows you can get in one go.
The rows continue to be added and if you don't clear them quickly enough, overflow at the top (like Tetris) and you have failed.
There are some variations - smaller puzzles that you have to figure out how to clear in one try, the ability to make your own puzzles, but I found it went from easy to very difficult too quickly and I failed fast. There is an option that allows you to practice without overflowing - it just waits until you've cleared enough and then fills more in. But that becomes tedious.
Moderately fun, not so much my style.
Not so fun.
Make sure that you read other reviewer's full descriptions of this game. I bought this based on their reviews but I was disappointed. I found this game a bit tedious and monotonous, not very challenging at all. It is an easy way to kill time but that is all. So read the descriptions carefully before buying. Fortunately, this game is pretty inexpensive.
different
A bit plain, but keeps you playing one screen after another. Not flashy with colors, but makes you think following the puzzle. Dont lift up the stylus or you will start the screen over.
Mind Numbing
Yes, it is mind numbing, but that isn't a bad thing. Somedays that is exactly what I need; to put my mind and hands towards doing something that wipes out all other thoughts from my mind. And this does it well! It is challenging, however if you are looking for pratice or a way to just sit and do this endlessly, they have that built into the programming. It is fun, and it is challenging. As mentioned in some of the reviews, the game is very touchy registering the stylus, so if you get in a hurry squares will get mis-marked and you have to go back and unmark them, wasting time. But isn't that what challenging is about?!
Great Thinking Puzzle Challenge But Sequel is Better!
Basics: You are presented with a black and white grid, of which, your goal is to draw a path which flips the colors to give matching rows.
Pros:
Core puzzle idea is elegantly simple but allows for a reasonable level of complexity in later levels.
Difficulty level increases linearly.
Cons:
Only 100 puzzles
No online play/features
Comments:
If you like puzzle games that challenge your brain then this a great game to get.
The sequel Polarium Advance, which unfortunately many people haven't heard about since for some reason it was released as a GBA game(which can be played by your DS Lite or original DS), has three times as many puzzles plus other improvements so it is definitely worth getting if you enjoyed the original DS one.
Logistical Tip:
If you find tracing the path directly does not work smoothly for you, you can just tap a square that is as far in a particular direction you want to go(I mention this specifically since some reviewers said they had control problems and also since the game never tells you it can be done the way I just specified).
